How To Cook:
Soak black-eyed peas overnight. Cook this in a pressure cooker for about 4 to 5 whistles. After all the pressure is released, open and set it aside. Grind some coconut, green chillies and cumin seeds to a smooth paste. Take a pan and season the yam and pumpkin with salt and turmeric powder and cook till the vegetables are soft. Toss in the cooked peas and combine well. Add some chilli powder, cumin powder and salt to taste. Give a quick stir and add in the ground paste. Stir till the masala is thickened. For the seasoning, heat some oil in a pan and add some mustard seeds, urad dal, dry red chillies and curry leaves and allow it to sizzle. Toss in some grated coconut and cook till golden. Add this seasoning to the mixture and mix well. Turn off the stove and serve with boiled rice.
